Empowering Teams on Online Learning Day 2025: Why Cyber Security Training Matters for Your Business

    Online Learning Day 2025

Online Learning Day 2025: A Time to Upskill and Stay Secure

Online Learning Day is a global reminder of the value of digital education in a rapidly evolving tech landscape. At The Unite Group, we believe this day is the perfect opportunity for businesses to take a proactive step towards strengthening their digital defences through cyber security training.

With the growing number of online threats targeting small and medium-sized businesses, ensuring your staff understand how to spot and avoid cyber risks has never been more important.

Why Cyber Security Training is Crucial in 2025

While firewalls, antivirus software and secure systems all play a part in your protection, human error remains one of the biggest risks to business security. A single click on a phishing link or weak password could cost thousands in downtime, data loss or reputational damage.

That’s why our cyber security training goes beyond the basics. We help your employees understand real-world threats and how to respond to them, offering practical knowledge that builds a true culture of security within your business.

What Our Cyber Security Training Covers

At The Unite Group, our training sessions are tailored to your organisation’s needs. Whether you’re a team of 5 or 500, we make cyber security accessible and relevant. Key areas include:

    • Phishing and scam awareness
    • Password hygiene and access controls
    • Safe remote working practices
    • Secure file sharing and email use
    • How to respond to suspicious activity

Training is delivered in a way that’s engaging, jargon-free and focused on reducing risk immediately.

Backed by Huntress: Proactive Protection Built In

As part of our training and wider cyber protection services, we integrate cutting-edge tools like Huntress, a proactive threat detection and endpoint protection platform. Huntress monitors your systems in real time and helps identify malicious activity before it causes damage.

This means that not only are your people better trained, but your systems are also better protected.

Compliant, Confident and Cyber Essentials Ready

We also support businesses in achieving Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus certification. These government-backed schemes are key indicators of a secure business and training plays a central role in meeting the requirements.

By combining our training with managed IT services and endpoint protection, we help clients pass their assessments and reduce their insurance risk too.

Online Learning Day: A Call to Action for Business Leaders

Online Learning Day 2025 is more than just a date on the calendar, it’s a reminder of how critical continued education is for the safety and success of your business. While your social media feed may be full of feel-good quotes and eLearning tips, this is your opportunity to take practical, impactful steps toward safeguarding your organisation.

Cyber threats evolve every single day. New scams, phishing attacks, ransomware, and social engineering tactics are being developed constantly. It’s no longer a question of if your business could be targeted, but when. Education is your first line of defence.

That’s why cyber security training isn’t just a “nice to have”,  it’s an essential part of every modern business strategy. Training your team ensures that everyone, from front-line staff to senior leadership, knows how to recognise suspicious activity, respond to threats quickly, and maintain strong cyber hygiene.

By acknowledging Online Learning Day 2025 through cyber awareness and upskilling, you’re showing that you value not only professional development, but also the long-term security and reputation of your business. Don’t let your people be your weakest link, empower them to become your strongest defence.

Ready to Upskill Your Team and Protect Your Business?

  • The Real Cost of Not Switching to Cloud Telephony

The Real Cost of Not Switching to Cloud Telephony

If your business is still relying on traditional phone systems, you might want to take a closer look at what that decision is really costing you. From missed opportunities to hidden expenses, the impact adds up faster than you think.

Today, more businesses are recognising the benefits of switching to cloud telephony, not just for cost savings but also for improved flexibility, reliability and ease of use. So what happens if you don’t make the move?

Still Using Traditional Phones? Here’s the Problem

Older phone systems might seem to do the job, but behind the scenes they often hold businesses back. These systems require physical hardware, manual updates, costly maintenance, and they don’t support the kind of flexible working environments most companies now offer.

Choosing to delay switching to cloud telephony might not show immediate issues, but over time it can affect everything from productivity to customer service.

Hidden Costs of Sticking With the Old Setup

It’s not just about what you’re paying for – it’s also about what you’re missing out on. Here’s what traditional systems are quietly costing your business:

    • High Maintenance Bills
Fixing broken handsets, replacing outdated hardware, or paying for engineer callouts can become a drain on your budget.
    • Inflexibility
Scaling your business? Traditional systems make it hard to add users or adjust features without installing more kit.
    • Limited Mobility
Hybrid and remote working is the norm, but physical systems can’t support that model efficiently.
    • Lack of Integration
Your CRM, emails and collaboration tools are online, but your phone system isn’t. That disconnect means lost time and missed opportunities.

The Business Case for Switching to Cloud Telephony

More organisations are now prioritising switching to cloud telephony to future-proof their communications. Let’s look at why.

    Predictable Monthly Costs

With no bulky hardware and minimal maintenance, your phone system becomes more affordable to run. The Unite Group offers hosted systems on a straightforward subscription model, so you can plan your budget without nasty surprises.

    Scale When You Need To

Growing your team? Adding a new site? With cloud telephony, it’s as easy as updating your portal. You won’t need to buy new hardware or wait weeks for an engineer. Whether you’re scaling up or down, switching to cloud telephony gives you the agility to do it fast.

    Work From Anywhere

In the office, at home or on the go – you can stay connected. With our system, your team can make and receive calls using business numbers on any internet-connected device. This flexibility makes switching to cloud telephony a smart move for businesses embracing hybrid working.

    Powerful Business Features

From call routing and voicemail to CRM integration and virtual numbers, cloud telephony is more than just a phone system. It’s a full business communications platform, built for performance and professionalism.

Our solutions at The Unite Group include everything you’d expect from a modern system:

    • Auto-attendants
    • Call recording
    • Voicemail to email
    • Real-time call stats
    • Integration with popular business tools

    Secure, Reliable and Fully Managed

Our systems are hosted in secure UK-based data centres with built-in backups and support. That means you get enterprise-level reliability, without having to manage it yourself.

You’re backed by our expert team who are always on hand if you need help or want to make changes.

What Happens If You Don’t Make the Switch?

By not switching to cloud telephony, businesses risk:

    • Falling behind competitors who can work faster and more flexibly
    • Overpaying for outdated systems
    • Missing out on features that improve customer service and efficiency
    • Struggling to support hybrid teams effectively

In short, staying put might feel like the easy option, but it could be limiting your potential in ways that are hard to measure until it’s too late.

    The Unite Group Can Help

Whether you’re running a small business or managing a growing team, we’ll help you get set up with a reliable, easy-to-use phone system that adapts as you grow.

We’ll guide you through every step of switching to cloud telephony, from assessing your needs to installing the system and training your team. And because it’s all hosted, there’s no major disruption to your operations.

Let’s Talk About Your Next Steps

If you’re considering switching to cloud telephony, now’s the time to make the move. You’ll cut costs, improve flexibility, and give your team the tools they need to work smarter –  not harder.

  • Supporting Norah’s North Pole 2024: Spreading the Magic of Christmas

Supporting Norah’s North Pole 2024: Spreading the Magic of Christmas

hundreds of toys around a christmas tree. text reads Supporting Norah’s North Pole 2024: Spreading the Magic of Christmas

At The Unite Group, supporting meaningful causes is at the heart of what we do, and this Christmas was no exception. For the fourth year running, we proudly supported Norah’s North Pole, an incredible local charity dedicated to ensuring children across the North East experience the magic of Christmas. This year, our involvement included donating and transporting hundreds of gifts, as well as volunteering to help pack Santa sacks. The generosity we witnessed from our local community was truly inspiring, and being part of this initiative remains a humbling and heartwarming experience for our entire team.

A Wave of Generosity in the North East

As an official drop-off point for Norah’s North Pole, we had the privilege of seeing firsthand the kindness and generosity of our community. Local businesses, families, and individuals came together, dropping off hundreds of gifts at our offices to support this incredible cause. From toys and games to warm clothing and books, every donation represented a thoughtful gesture to bring joy to a child who might otherwise wake up to nothing on Christmas morning.

    Volunteering at the North Pole

This year, members of our team also volunteered at Norah’s North Pole to help pack the Santa sacks. Stepping into the “North Pole” was an experience like no other—rows of gifts waiting to be packed into magical sacks ready to deliver smiles to children across the region.

The process was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. While it was uplifting to know these gifts would make a difference, hearing the stories behind the families who would receive them served as a poignant reminder of the struggles many face during the festive season.

Four Years of Partnership and Counting

This year marked our fourth year supporting Norah’s North Pole, and each year, we are reminded of why this cause is so close to our hearts. The family behind Norah’s North Pole pour their love and dedication into ensuring no child is left out during the festive season. Their efforts, from organising logistics to rallying community support, are nothing short of inspiring.

It is an honour to be an official drop-off point and to play a small role in helping them achieve their mission. Watching this initiative grow year after year fills us with pride, and we look forward to continuing our partnership for many more years to come.

A Message of Gratitude and Hope

As we reflect on this year’s campaign, we are incredibly grateful for everyone who contributed, whether by donating gifts or spreading the word. Your generosity has made a tangible difference to countless families in the North East, ensuring that children can experience the magic of Christmas despite difficult circumstances.

To the family that runs Norah’s North Pole: thank you for your tireless work, your compassion, and your unwavering commitment to this cause. You have created something truly magical!

    Looking Ahead to Next Year

As the festive season comes to a close, we are already looking ahead to continuing our support for Norah’s North Pole next Christmas. We encourage everyone in our community to join us next year in supporting this wonderful cause. Together, we can ensure that every child in the North East wakes up to the joy and magic of Christmas morning.

From all of us at The Unite Group, thank you for helping us make a difference. Here’s to another year of spreading kindness, joy, and festive cheer with Norah’s North Pole!

  • Cyber Essentials Demystified: Your Key to a Resilient and Secure Online Presence

Cyber Essentials Demystified: Your Key to a Resilient and Secure Online Presence

Cyber Essentials Demystified: Your Key to a Resilient and Secure Online Presence

In today’s hyper-connected world, where digital landscapes reign supreme, the importance of cyber security cannot be overstated. So, with cyber threats becoming more sophisticated and prevalent, individuals and businesses alike must prioritise their online security. This is where Cyber Essentials steps in as a vital tool to fortify your digital defences and ensure a robust online presence.

    Understanding Cyber Essentials

Cyber Essentials, a UK government-backed initiative, is designed to provide a clear framework for safeguarding against common cyber threats. It offers a set of guidelines and best practices that focus on fundamental cybersecurity measures. By implementing these measures, individuals and organisations can significantly reduce the risk of cyberattacks and enhance their overall security posture.

    The Core Principles

At the heart of Cyber Essentials lie five core principles that form the foundation of a resilient cyber security strategy. These principles include:

    • Boundary Firewalls and Internet Gateways: Effectively configuring and managing firewalls and gateways to control incoming and outgoing network traffic, shielding your systems from unauthorised access.
    • Secure Configuration: Configure systems and devices with security in mind to minimise vulnerabilities that attackers could exploit.
    • Access Control and Privilege Management: Managing user access rights and privileges to restrict unauthorised access to sensitive data and resources.
    • Patch Management: Regularly updating and patching software and applications to address known vulnerabilities, reducing the risk of exploitation.
    • Malware Protection: Implementing robust anti-malware solutions to detect and prevent malicious software from infiltrating your systems.

    The Benefits of Cyber Essentials

Additionally, by adhering to the principles of Cyber Essentials, individuals and organisations can reap a multitude of benefits:

    • Heightened Security: Cyber Essentials empowers you with the knowledge and tools to fortify your digital infrastructure against a range of cyber threats, from phishing attacks to malware infections.
    • Customer Trust: Demonstrating your commitment to cyber security through Cyber Essentials certification enhances your credibility in the eyes of clients and customers.
    • Legal and Regulatory Compliance: With data protection regulations becoming more stringent, Cyber Essentials helps you stay compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Competitive Edge: Cyber Essentials certification sets you apart from competitors, showcasing your dedication to safeguarding sensitive information.
    • Cost Savings: By preventing cyber incidents and data breaches, you save on potential financial losses, legal fees, and reputation damage.

    Getting Started with Cyber Essentials

Embarking on your Cyber Essentials journey is easier than you might think. Especially when you have access to our qualified in-house cyber essentials assessors here at The Unite Group.

Below we detail a step-by-step guide to what you should expect from the scheme:

    • Self-Assessment: We begin by looking into your current cyber security measures against the five core principles of Cyber Essentials. Identifying areas that need improvement.
    • Implementation: Based on your assessment, we will work with you to implement the necessary changes to align with Cyber Essentials guidelines. This could involve configuring firewalls, updating software, and enhancing access controls.
    • Documentation: Keep records of the changes you’ve made and the measures you’ve implemented. This documentation will be essential when applying for certification.
    • Certification: You will then undergo an assessment to validate your adherence to the principles. Once certified, proudly display the Cyber Essentials badge.

    In Conclusion

Cyber Essentials provides a clear roadmap to bolstering your cyber security defences and provides a secure online presence. By embracing its principles, you not only mitigate the risk of cyberattacks but also establish a strong foundation of trust and reliability in the digital realm. So, as the threat landscape continues to evolve, Cyber Essentials remains your steadfast companion in the ongoing battle against cyber threats.
